About Peachland
The District of Peachland was incorporated on January 1, 1909, making it one of the oldest municipal incorporations in the Central Okanagan. It was founded in 1899 by John Moore Robinson on the site of a former settlement called Camp Hewett.
Peachland's demographic is notably older than the BC average — third-party demographic analyses place the average age at approximately 53 years (2021 Census) — and the community's social infrastructure reflects this, with multiple seniors-serving organizations (Peachland Wellness Centre, Peachland 50+ Activity Centre, Peachland Seniors' Support Society) concentrated along the Beach Avenue / 4th–5th Street corridor.
The District's 2024 Interim Housing Needs Report identifies a 20-year need of approximately 1,650 new housing units — nearly 500 needed by 2029 — and 76 households in extreme core housing need (46 renters, 30 owners with a mortgage).
Peachland has direct experience with climate-driven emergencies. The 2017 Okanagan Lake flood damaged the Centennial Walkway and required about $1 million in foreshore recovery work. The August 2023 McDougall Creek wildfire placed Peachland industrial properties under evacuation order (later reduced to alert) and the District maintains a Wildfire Prevention / FireSmart Rebate program.
As of April 2026, Peachland is on Stage 3 water restrictions due to drought and low upland lake levels — a reminder that the community's small municipal water supply is sensitive to regional climate pressure.
